Teen Activists
Teen activists are passionate teens, who care for what they believe is right. They demonstrate perseverance, creativity, and a strong will to fight for what they believe in. These teens take action against what they believe is wrong. The fierce passion they display for their causes is uncounterable determination to stand for what is right.
FAYE CAREY
Sixteen-year-old Faye Carey displays a teen activist’s undeniable creativity. This teen used positive creativity to leave no animal abandoned and un-homed.
Faye, a lover of all animals, took up a volunteer job at a shelter in New Zealand, and naturally fell in love with a puppy. But when the end of the week came, and the puppy still hadn’t been adopted, Faye began to feel for the innocent canine. “I saw him there at the end of the week,” Faye says, “and I felt sorry for him.”
Never one to leave a problem unsolved, Faye decided to take action against leaving pets, dogs and cats alike, unhomed in a shelter. She started a Facebook page, Animal Re-Home Waikato, where she advertised the pets at the shelter. People began to see and take interest in these pet’s pictures, and eventually, adopt them. So far, Faye has managed to re-home over 60 pets.

BIANCA V.
This teen activist, Bianca V., demonstrates perseverance like none other. She, having gone to one week of Youth Empowered Action (YEA) camp when she was fourteen, was exposed to the unfortunate treatment of many animals around the world. She also discovered that she could help. She was determined to pursue that dream of helping the world’s animals.
She soon created the Hearts for Animals club the following year at her high school. Together, the Hearts for Animals raised over 1,000 dollars for their local animal shelter, started a successful animal-needs collection drive, and volunteered at Cats In Need animal shelter. This was not the end of Bianca and her club’s accomplishments. They managed to start a walk-a-thon raising funds for animal shelters, and starting Pennies for Paws, a fundraiser for her school to donate to.
“I have learned SO MUCH from this experience and even though next year will be my last year with the club,” Bianca says. “I believe that Hearts for Animals will continue to run at our school and do even bigger and better things.”

ABBY REIMAN
Abby Reiman is yet another animal-helping activist, focused on saving rodents. This teen discovered the truth of glue traps, cruel and inefficient traps for killing “house pests,” otherwise known as rats and mice. These traps ensnare the small animals and leave them to die a very slow and unfortunate death.
Abby knew that not everyone could see these traps as cruel, including her school. She politely asked her school janitor if, indeed, their school used glue traps. She unfortunately found these traps upon her high school premises.
Determined to end this, she and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Association wrote a letter to the superintendent of her
school district, which succeeded in ridding her district of these traps. This strong-willed teen showed undeniable determination to reach and excede her goal of helping animals of all kinds.
